Administration & Support for Research

Sponsored research at the University of Chicago is supported and administered by the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPRNL) and for National Laboratories and the Deputy Provost for Research. We provide guidance and support to UChicago researchers and scholars in their pursuit of new knowledge from proposal and program development to grant management and invention disclosure. Our goal is to make smooth the path for our world leading faculty to open up new fields of discovery; find new medicines and therapies to treat disease; design next generation materials; and cross disciplinary boundaries to solve some of the toughest problems in urban health and education.

The OVPRNL is also responsible for stewardship and oversight of the University’s contracts with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage Argonne National Laboratory and co-manage Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory through UChicago Argonne LLC and Fermi Research Alliance, LLC.
